Hobby

Hobby is the aquatics and terraristics brand from Dohse Aquaristik in Germany, and the range splits into two halves. Roughly two thirds is aquarium kit, from artificial plants and hardscape to filter media, aeration and maintenance tools. The rest is terrarium equipment, mostly lighting, heating and reptile water bowls.

What We Stock For Aquariums

• Decor and planting. Artificial plants in several heights, Flora Stone planting rock, catfish and shrimp caves, slate, pebble and rock hardscape, two shells and two printed backgrounds.
• Water and botanicals. Catappa and oak leaves, alder cones and similar botanicals that tint and soften water the slow way, for shrimp, bettas and blackwater tanks.
• Filter media. Activated carbon, filter foam, ceramic and sintered media, and filter wool, to suit most internal and external filters.
• Aeration. Air stones, air diffusers and bubble wands, plus three LED bubble units. An air pump is a separate purchase on all of these.
• Nets and tools. Fine-mesh nets in several sizes, planting tweezers at 30cm and 40cm, a multi-tool, a glass cleaning set and a spiral hose brush.

What We Stock For Terrariums

• Lighting and UV. Halogen basking spots, infrared night spots, a moonlight LED, metal halide and mercury vapour UV lamps for desert and basking species, plus clamp lamps, lamp guards and a switched mains lead.
• Heating and climate. Elstein ceramic heat emitters in four wattages, two digital thermostats and the Easy Rain misting system.
• Reptile bowls. Water bowls and bathing dishes in rock, bark and tree-stump finishes, and shallow dishes for small lizards and geckos.
• Artificial terrarium plants. Three dry-habitat plants for cover and climbing.

Choosing From This Range

• Match the lamp to the animal, not the tank. UV-B needs, basking temperatures and day length differ sharply between a bearded dragon, a crested gecko and a tortoise. Check your species' figures before you pick a wattage.
• Lamps and emitters get hot. Hobby sell guards separately for the clamp lamps, and we stock them. Fit one if an animal can reach the lamp, and run heat sources through a thermostat.
• Hobby build to 230V 50Hz, which matches UAE mains, so the electrical items need no adapter.

Good To Know

• Hobby is a European brand and most of this range is made in Germany, so pack sizes and article numbers follow the German catalogue.
• Stock on the lighting and heating lines moves in batches. If a wattage you need is out, ask us and we will tell you what is due.
• Not everything in the wider Hobby catalogue is listed here. If you have seen a Hobby item elsewhere, send us the article number and we will check availability.
