Description
Hobby Cleaning Set 1-2-3 For Aquarium Glass is three cleaning heads on one handle, with extensions - which covers the whole range of algae you actually meet. Soft green film wants a sponge, dried-on water marks want a rubber blade, and hard green spot algae wants a steel blade. One of those three will not do the other two jobs.
Key Features
- Clip-On Sponge: for ordinary green film on the glass, gentle enough not to scratch.
- Rubber Scraper: for water marks and softer deposits, and for squeegeeing the glass after.
- Stainless Blade Scraper: for hard green spot algae, the kind a sponge simply polishes.
- Flexible Coupling: angle the head so you can work the corners and the waterline rather than just the flat middle.
- 10cm Handle Plus Two 15cm Extensions: up to 40cm of reach, so your hands stay out of the water.
Using The Blade Without Damaging Anything
- Never use the steel blade on an acrylic tank. It will scratch acrylic permanently and in seconds. Acrylic gets the sponge and nothing else.
- Keep the blade off the silicone seams. Running a blade down a corner joint nicks the silicone, and a nicked seam is a future leak. Stop a centimetre short and finish the corner with the sponge.
- Watch for grit. A grain of sand trapped under the blade will score glass. Keep the blade clear of the substrate line.
- Angle it low and let the edge do the work rather than pressing hard.
Good To Know
- This listing is the complete set: handle, two extensions and three heads.
- Unplug the heater and filter before you work in the tank.
- Rinse and dry the blade after use, and replace it when it dulls - a blunt blade needs pressure, and pressure is what causes damage.
- Keep it for the aquarium only. A sponge that has been near detergent is not going back in a tank.
- If algae keeps coming back on the glass within days, the problem is light or nutrients, not cleaning.
