JurassiPet JurassiMite Reptile Mite Spray - 250 ml is a spray for treating mites on reptiles and in their enclosures, in a 250 ml bottle.

Key Features

• For the mites that get into a collection: Snake mites and their relatives, which are the usual problem. Also used on fleas and ticks picked up by an animal that goes outdoors.
• Treats the animal and the enclosure: A mite problem lives in the enclosure as much as on the animal. Treating one and not the other is the single commonest reason an infestation comes back.
• Can be used daily: JurassiPet say it can go on daily, including through a heavy infestation, which is what a mite life cycle demands.
• Built for animals that absorb through the skin: JurassiPet describe it as non-toxic and free of harsh chemicals. For reptiles and for anything kept damp, that is rather the point of it.

How To Use It

• Spray the animal, keeping well clear of the eyes and face. Damp, not dripping.
• Or spray it onto a lintless cloth and wipe the animal down, which is far easier to control on a nervous animal and around the head.
• Do not treat an animal that has shed within the last six hours. The skin underneath is new and more permeable.
• For the enclosure, take the animal out along with the food and water dishes, then spray the substrate, the decor and the corners and joints where mites sit out the day.
• Let everything dry before the animal goes back in.

Getting On Top Of A Mite Problem

• One treatment will not do it. Mite eggs survive most treatments and keep hatching, so what you are treating is a cycle rather than a population. Plan on repeating over several weeks.
• Treat the animal and the enclosure on the same day, every time. Mites spend most of their lives off the animal.
• Strip the enclosure back while you are dealing with it. Swap loose substrate for paper towel so you can see what is happening and change it daily, and take out porous decor you have no way of cleaning.
• Quarantine properly. Mites travel on your hands, on shared tongs and in a shared water dish, and a new arrival is the usual way they turn up. Treat anything new as suspect for a couple of months.
• A heavy mite burden makes an animal anaemic and can move disease between animals. If your snake is soaking constantly, looks dull, has gone off food or you can see mites in numbers, get a reptile vet involved rather than working through it on your own.

• Not a veterinary medicine and not a diagnosis. Mites, scale rot and a stuck shed can look like one another, and treating the wrong one only loses you time.
