Description

JurassiPet JurassiGuard Appetite Stimulant Spray - 250 ml is a garlic-scented spray used to tempt a reluctant meat-eating reptile or amphibian into eating, in a 250 ml bottle.

Key Features

  • Garlic, for the meat eaters: Garlic is the scent that gets a response from carnivores and omnivores, where a fruit scent does nothing. Snakes, monitors, aquatic turtles.
  • Gets juveniles onto prepared food: A young animal that has only had live or fresh prey will often turn down anything prepared, and scenting it is the usual way through.
  • Eases a diet change: The same job on an adult you are moving across to something new.
  • Works on prepared and on whole prey: It goes onto a pellet, a stick, a thawed rodent or a piece of fish equally well, so it is useful whatever you are trying to get an animal to accept.

Using It

  • Shake the bottle well before use.
  • Spray it onto the food item before you offer it.
  • JurassiPet say there is no risk of overdosing, so use as much or as little as suits the animal. Go light to begin with all the same.

Before You Reach For An Appetite Spray

  • A reptile that has gone off its food is nearly always telling you something, and a scent spray does not answer it. Work through the husbandry first.
  • Temperature comes first. A reptile that is too cold cannot digest and will stop eating. Check the basking spot and the cool end with a thermometer you trust rather than the dial on the mat.
  • Then lighting. A UVB lamp that has quietly faded, or the absence of one, shows up as a poor appetite long before it shows up as anything else.
  • Then the time of year. Brumation is normal in several species, and a dip in appetite through the cooler months may be nothing that needs fixing.
  • If the husbandry checks out and she is still not eating, or she is losing weight, that is a reptile vet. Masking a symptom with scent is the one thing not to do.

Good To Know

  • A 250 ml bottle.
  • The name is misleading, so to be plain about it: JurassiGuard is an appetite stimulant, not a health or parasite product. If you came here looking for a mite treatment, that is JurassiMite and a separate listing.
  • For carnivores and omnivores. For tortoises and other plant eaters, JurassiFruit is the fruit-scented version and a separate listing.
  • A feeding aid, not a supplement and not a medicine. It adds scent, not nutrition.
  • Garlic at this sort of level is a scent and nothing more. You will find garlic described online as a natural parasite treatment; there is no good evidence for that in reptiles, and a parasite problem needs a faecal test and a vet.
  • In stock.
