Will Your Animal Actually Eat It?

• This is the question that matters and the answer depends on the animal. A great many reptiles hunt by movement, and a cricket that does not move does not register as food.
• Animals already used to tongs, or to a dish of prepared food, usually take it without any fuss. A hunter that has only ever had live crickets may need convincing, and a few never come round.
• Offer it from tongs with a bit of movement. That is often the whole trick.
• Think of it as the thing that covers a holiday, a supply gap or a week when the livefood delivery fails, rather than a permanent swap. Live prey also gives an animal exercise and something to do, which a dish does not.
• One thing live crickets do that these cannot is carry a gut-load. If your animal's calcium arrives inside its prey, keep that in mind and keep supplementing.

Feeding And Storage

• Offer only what the animal will eat at one sitting.
• Take out anything uneaten after 24 hours.
• Refrigerate it once the pack is open.
