Description

JurassiPet JurassiFruit Appetite Stimulant Spray is a fruit-scented spray used to tempt a reluctant plant-eating reptile into eating, in a 250 ml bottle.

Key Features

  • Fruit scent, for the plant eaters: Aimed at herbivores and omnivores such as tortoises, iguanas and dragons. On a carnivore a fruit scent does very little, and the garlic-based JurassiGuard is the one that works.
  • Gets juveniles onto a pellet: The usual job for it. A young animal raised on fresh food will often refuse a dry pelleted diet outright, and scenting it is how keepers bridge the gap.
  • Eases a diet change: The same trick for an adult you are moving onto something new.
  • Two scents: Banana and strawberry, listed here as separate options.

Using It

  • Shake the bottle, then spray it onto the food before you offer it.
  • On a dry pelleted food, give it about three minutes to soak in before it goes down.
  • JurassiPet say there is no risk of overdosing, so you can use as much or as little as suits the animal. Start light even so, because a heavy hand can put an animal off as easily as draw one in.

Before You Reach For An Appetite Spray

  • A reptile that has gone off its food is nearly always telling you something, and a scent spray does not answer it. Work through the husbandry first.
  • Temperature comes first. A reptile that is too cold cannot digest and will stop eating. Check the basking spot and the cool end with a thermometer you trust rather than the dial on the mat.
  • Then lighting. A UVB lamp that has quietly faded, or the absence of one, shows up as a poor appetite long before it shows up as anything else.
  • Then the time of year. Brumation is normal in several species, and a dip in appetite through the cooler months may be nothing that needs fixing.
  • If the husbandry checks out and she is still not eating, or she is losing weight, that is a reptile vet. Masking a symptom with scent is the one thing not to do.

Good To Know

  • A 250 ml bottle.
  • For herbivores and omnivores. For snakes and other carnivores, JurassiGuard is the garlic-scented equivalent and a separate listing.
  • A feeding aid, not a supplement and not a medicine. It adds scent, not nutrition.
  • Banana is in stock. Strawberry is not at the moment, so ask us for the lead time on that one.
