Description

Hobby Easy Rain Terrarium Misting System is an automatic misting system with a 9 litre reservoir. For tropical species - crested geckos, chameleons, dart frogs, anything from rainforest - humidity is not decoration, it is the difference between a clean shed and a stuck one. Doing it by hand twice a day works until the first time you are away.

Key Features

  • 9 Litre Reservoir: enough to run larger terraria or several small ones for days without a refill.
  • Top-Fill: refill from above without dismantling the plumbing, which sounds minor until you have owned a system that does not.
  • Expandable To Six Nozzles, so one unit can serve several enclosures.
  • Adjustable Spray Time And Interval, and the spray power can be reduced for a small terrarium you would otherwise soak.
  • Fine Mist rather than a jet, which is what raises humidity and leaves drinking droplets on leaves.
  • Supplied With: hose cutter, 5.5m of 4/6mm pressure hose, a fine filter, two spray nozzles and an end piece.

Setting It Up Sensibly

  • Start with short, infrequent bursts and work up. The usual mistake is a permanently wet enclosure, and a wet enclosure with poor ventilation grows mould and gives reptiles respiratory infections. Wet-then-dry is the pattern you want, not constantly damp.
  • Buy a hygrometer. Set the schedule to a measured humidity, not to a guess.
  • Aim the nozzles at planting and the back wall, not at the animal, the basking spot or the lamp. Water on a hot bulb can shatter it.
  • Use dechlorinated or RO water if you can. UAE tap water is hard, and hard water leaves white limescale on the glass and will eventually block fine nozzles. This is the single biggest maintenance factor for a misting system here.
  • Keep the inline filter clean, and check the nozzles monthly.

Good To Know

  • This listing is the unit with the accessories listed above. Up to six nozzles are supported; two are included.
  • UAE mains suits this. Hobby build to 230V 50Hz, which is what comes out of the wall here, so there is no voltage problem. The plug is the European two-pin type, so you will want an adapter or a UK plug fitted - and it is worth running tank and terrarium equipment through an RCD-protected socket.
  • Dry hands, and a drip loop. Let the cable hang below the socket so water running down it drips off rather than reaching the plug. Unplug before you put your hands in the water.
  • Make sure the enclosure can drain or dry. A misting system plus a sealed base equals standing water.
  • Expect to descale it periodically in this water. Vinegar through the nozzles, rinsed well, is usually enough.
  • It will not cool a terrarium meaningfully. Humidity and temperature are separate problems.
