JBL

JBL is a German manufacturer of aquarium, terrarium and pond products, and one of the few that runs its own research centre and sends its staff on annual expeditions to the habitats the animals actually come from. That shows up in the detail on the packs: dosing figures, water values and feeding rates that are meant to be followed rather than guessed at.

Making Sense Of JBL's Naming

• Most ranges use a letter and a number, and the number is the size, the capacity or the output. The CristalProfi filters run e402 to e1902 for externals and i30 to i200 for internals. The ProTemp S heaters are numbered in watts, the ProSilent air pumps in litres of air an hour, and the ProScape tools in centimetres.
• Hose and the clips that hold it are sold as two numbers, the inside and outside diameter in millimetres: 12/16 suits the e400 to e900 filters, 16/22 the e1500 and 19/25 the e1900.
• LED Solar is simply the name of JBL's aquarium luminaire line. Nothing in it is solar powered, and all of it is mains lighting for an indoor tank.
• If you are not sure which size or output suits your tank, send us the length, width and depth along with what you are keeping, and we will work it out for you.
