JBL Aquarium Cleaning Glove is a cleaning glove with metal threads worked into the palm. You put it on, reach in and rub, which makes it the easiest tool there is for the awkward places a magnet cannot reach: inside corners, around pipework and over decor.

Getting The Best Out Of It

• Rinse the glove in plain water before it goes in, so nothing from the last session is still in the threads.
• Work on the glass away from the substrate, and shake the glove out in the water if you feel grit.
• Go carefully over plants. An abrasive glove will tear a soft leaf, so use fingertips rather than the palm on anything delicate.
• Switch heaters and pumps off at the mains before you put a hand in the tank. That is worth doing every time.
• Wash your hands and forearms before and after, with water only, and keep soap and hand cream well away from the tank.

Good To Know

• Glass only, never acrylic. A blade, steel wool or a metal-threaded pad will cut straight into an acrylic pane, and the scratches do not polish out in a filled tank.
• The usual way people scratch aquarium glass is to trap a grain of sand under the pad or the blade. Check the face of the tool before each pass and stay a finger's width above the substrate line.
• Rinse it thoroughly after use and hang it up to dry, since a damp glove in a cupboard will go musty.
• Keep it for the aquarium and nothing else. A glove used on a household cleaner is not going back in a tank.
• Scraping is the symptom. Algae on the glass means light, nutrients or both are in surplus, so look at the photoperiod, the feeding and the nitrate and phosphate readings as well.
