Description

JBL Aqua-T Triumph is the larger glass scraper in the Aqua-T range: a 14cm stainless steel blade with a rubber scraper on the same tool. The rubber edge does the soft film and the steel does the hard spot algae, and the rubber doubles as the cover for the blade.

Key Features

  • 14cm blade: nearly twice the width of the Handy, which is what you want on a large pane.
  • Steel blade and rubber scraper: two edges on one tool: rubber for soft film, steel for the hard deposits.
  • The rubber edge caps the blade: it covers the steel when the tool is stored, so there is no separate cap to lose.
  • Wide grip: a 14cm blade needs a hold you can put some weight behind.
  • Replaceable blades: JBL sells the spares separately.
  • Glass tanks only: steel and acrylic do not mix.

Using A Blade Scraper Safely

  • Take the soft film off with the rubber edge first. Less for the blade to do means less risk to the glass.
  • Hold the steel edge almost flat to the pane and let it cut rather than forcing it.
  • Keep the blade off the silicone seams and finish the corners by hand.
  • Stay above the substrate, because a grain of sand under a 14cm blade scores a 14cm line.
  • Keep it clear of heater glass, hoses and cables, and cap it before you put it away.

Good To Know

  • Glass only, never acrylic. A blade, steel wool or a metal-threaded pad will cut straight into an acrylic pane, and the scratches do not polish out in a filled tank.
  • Keep a blade away from the silicone seams in the corners. A nicked seam is a slow leak waiting to happen, and no scraper is safe against silicone whatever the packaging says.
  • The usual way people scratch aquarium glass is to trap a grain of sand under the pad or the blade. Check the face of the tool before each pass and stay a finger's width above the substrate line.
  • Replace the blade when it stops biting rather than pressing harder. A blunt blade is what makes people push hard enough to do damage.
  • Keep blades and spare blades well out of reach of children.
  • Rinse the tool in plain water after use and let it dry. Never clean anything that goes into a tank with detergent.
  • The rubber edge caps the blade in storage. It does not make the steel safe against silicone, so keep the blade off the seams.
