Howbone

Howbone makes dog treats and chews built around a short ingredient list, with no added sugar, salt or artificial preservatives. The range runs from small training rewards up to 270g pouches of bone-shaped and twisted chews, plus a goat's milk line for softer mouths.

What We Stock

• Training rewards: Training Bite in a resealable 200g tub across three flavours, and Training Star stars in a 75g pouch.
• Jerky and dental: Prime Jerky soft chicken sticks, and a chicken-flavour Dental Stick with an air-bubble texture.
• Bone-shaped chews in 270g pouches: Small Bone with 15 regular-size pieces in chicken, beef or milk, and Mini Bone with 30 petite-size pieces in chicken or beef.
• Twisted chews: lamb Twist Sticks and a braided chicken rawhide, plus 80g Two In One sticks that wind goat's milk together with carrot or pumpkin.
• Goat's milk: Soft Smart Dices in four 45g sachets, and a 300g tin of Formulated Powder to mix with water.

Choosing From This Range

• For training, pick the small pieces. Training Bite and Training Star are both low-fat and easy to hand over again and again without filling a dog up.
• For a dog that needs occupying, the 270g bones and twist sticks last far longer than anything soft.
• Piece size is the thing to check on the bones. Small Bone holds 15 regular-size chews; Mini Bone holds 30 petite ones at the same pack weight, which is the one to pick for a toy or small breed.
• For a puppy, an older dog with worn teeth or a fussy eater, the soft goat's milk products are the gentler end of the range.

Good To Know

• Treats are extra calories. Keep them to roughly a tenth of what your dog eats in a day and take the difference off the main meal.
• Howbone marks several of the 270g chews as unsuitable for dogs under six months old, so check the individual product before buying for a young puppy.
• Give any chew with someone in the room, and take the last piece away once it is small enough to swallow whole. That matters most with the braided rawhide chew.
• The goat's milk powder is a complementary feed to serve alongside a complete food. It is not a milk replacer for hand-rearing an orphaned litter.
