Fruitables

Fruitables builds treats around pumpkin, apple and sweet potato rather than meat, and counts the calories on the front of every bag. It is a small range with one clear idea: a treat you can hand over often without it mattering.

What Is In The Range

• Skinny Minis are soft, grain-free training treats at 3 calories each - the ones to buy if you are rewarding a dog twenty times in a session
• Fruitables baked dog treats are crunchy biscuits at 8 calories each, for once or twice a day rather than training
• Fruitables cat treats and Wildly Natural cat treats are both crunchy, both 1.25 calories a piece, and closer to each other than the packaging suggests
• Pumpkin SuperBlend is a canned fibre supplement for dogs and cats, stirred into the food

Reading The Calorie Count

• The number on the front is the useful one. Treats should stay around a tenth of what a pet eats in a day, and that tenth comes off the dinner rather than on top
• For a 10 kg dog that is roughly eighteen Skinny Minis, or about seven baked biscuits
• For a 4 kg cat it is about sixteen cat treats - a genuinely generous allowance by cat treat standards

Choosing Between Them

• Training a dog: Skinny Minis, soft and tearable
• A biscuit at the door or in the crate: the baked Fruitables dog treats
• Grain free: Skinny Minis. The baked treats contain oats and barley
• Meat free: the Pumpkin & Apple baked treat has no animal ingredient at all
• Cats: either bag works. Wildly Natural runs the shorter ingredient list; the Superfoods bags add fruit and more flavour variety

Good To Know

• Every recipe in both cat ranges begins with chicken meal, including the tuna and salmon bags. If you are avoiding chicken, none of them will suit
• All three Skinny Minis contain pork stock, and the Apple & Bacon recipe also contains bacon. Crispy Bacon & Apple in the baked range contains bacon too
• Fruitables label everything here for intermittent or supplemental feeding only - these are complementary treats, not meals
• Fruitables is a Manna Pro Products brand based in St Louis, Missouri, producing in the USA with globally sourced ingredients. Older packs and listings still credit Vetscience
