Description
The Fruitables Skinny Minis Soft Dog Treats is a soft, grain-free training treat at three calories a piece, small enough to hand over twenty times in a session without it showing on the dog.
Key Features
- Three flavours: Rotisserie Chicken, Grilled Bison, and Apple & Bacon
- Soft and chewy, not crunchy - they tear easily, so one treat becomes three
- 3 calories per treat, 2,715 kcal/kg
- Guaranteed analysis: crude protein 8% min, crude fat 6% min, crude fibre 4% max, moisture 25% max
- Grain free - built on sweet potato or pumpkin with chickpeas and peas rather than cereals
- Contains pork stock in all three recipes, and bacon in the Apple & Bacon one
- 141g resealable pack
Why Soft Matters For Training
- A dog can swallow a soft treat instantly. A crunchy one takes a few seconds of chewing, and in that time the dog has stopped paying attention to you
- Soft treats also tear. Pull each one into two or three and you triple the number of repetitions out of the bag without tripling the calories
- At three calories apiece even a 5 kg dog can take around a dozen inside the sensible daily limit. For a 10 kg dog it is nearer eighteen
- Keep the pieces small enough that the dog does not have to think about them. Size is about rhythm, not generosity
What Is In Them
- The base is sweet potato or pumpkin, with chickpeas, peas and tapioca starch - no wheat, corn, soy or any other cereal
- Vegetable glycerin is second on the list. It is the humectant that keeps them soft, and it is also why they are higher in moisture than a baked treat
- Honey is in all three recipes. Worth knowing if your vet has you watching sugar for a diabetic or overweight dog
- Each recipe carries a named meat - chicken, bison or bacon - plus pork stock, and is finished with rosemary extract, green tea extract and spearmint
Grain Free Is Not Automatically Better
- Grain free genuinely helps a dog with a confirmed cereal sensitivity, and it is useful if your vet has you running an elimination diet
- For every other dog it is a preference rather than an upgrade. Oats and barley are not a problem for most dogs
- If you specifically want grain free, this is the Fruitables treat to take - the baked Fruitables dog treats contain oats and barley
Who Makes It
- Fruitables is a Manna Pro Products brand, run out of St Louis, Missouri
- The packs state the treats are produced in the USA with globally sourced ingredients
- Older Fruitables stock and some online listings still credit Vetscience, the company that built the brand before Manna Pro took it on
Good To Know
- All three flavours are currently out of stock
- All three recipes contain pork stock, and the Apple & Bacon recipe also contains bacon. If you avoid pork for any reason, this is the product in the range to skip
- Fruitables label these for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. They are a treat, not a meal, and are not balanced to feed on their own
- Keep treats to about a tenth of what your pet eats in a day, and take that tenth off the dinner rather than adding it on top
- Introduce any new treat gradually. A sudden change, or too many at once, upsets a stomach more often than the treat itself does
- Reseal the pack and keep it somewhere cool and dry. Treats left open in UAE humidity go soft and stale quickly
- Make sure fresh water is available at all times
- Fruitables' own promise line on every pack is free of wheat, corn, soy and artificial flavours or colours
- Soft treats dry out fast once opened. Squeeze the air out and seal the bag properly, or they go hard and stop being useful for training
