Description
The Fruitables Baked Crunchy Dog Treats is an oven-baked crunchy dog treat built on pumpkin and apple, at eight calories a piece - a biscuit to give once or twice a day rather than a training treat to hand out by the fistful.
Key Features
- Two flavours: Pumpkin & Apple, and Crispy Bacon & Apple
- Baked and crunchy, not soft
- 8 calories per treat, 3,030 kcal/kg
- Guaranteed analysis: crude protein 7% min, crude fat 6% min, crude fibre 8% max, moisture 10% max
- Pumpkin & Apple contains no meat at all - pumpkin, oats, pearled barley, potatoes and apple, finished with cinnamon and vanilla
- Crispy Bacon & Apple contains bacon, which is pork
- No wheat, corn or soy, and no artificial flavours or colours
- 198g pack
The Two Recipes Are Genuinely Different
- Pumpkin & Apple is a meat-free biscuit. The whole recipe is pumpkin, oats, pearled barley, potatoes, apple pomace, sunflower oil, cane molasses, cinnamon and natural apple and vanilla flavours
- Crispy Bacon & Apple drops the cinnamon and the vanilla, and adds bacon and natural bacon flavour on the same pumpkin and oat base
- So if you want the cinnamon-and-apple-pie smell the brand is known for, that is the green bag, not the red one
Not Grain Free
- These contain oats and pearled barley. They are free of wheat, corn and soy, which is a different thing
- That is fine for the large majority of dogs - cereals are not a problem unless a particular dog has shown you they are
- If you need grain free, Fruitables Skinny Minis are the ones built without cereals
Eight Calories Changes How You Use Them
- At eight calories each these are nearly three times a Skinny Mini. A 10 kg dog's sensible daily treat allowance is about seven of them
- That makes them a once-or-twice-a-day biscuit - the one that goes with the crate, or the one at the door when you leave - rather than a training reward
- If you want to use them in training, snap them in half or quarters first
The Fibre Is Worth Noting
- Crude fibre runs up to 8%, which is high for a biscuit and comes from the pumpkin and apple pomace
- For a dog that needs a bit more bulk, that is useful. For a dog already on a high-fibre diet, it is something to account for rather than ignore
Who Makes It
- Fruitables is a Manna Pro Products brand, run out of St Louis, Missouri
- The packs state the treats are produced in the USA with globally sourced ingredients
- Older Fruitables stock and some online listings still credit Vetscience, the company that built the brand before Manna Pro took it on
Good To Know
- Both flavours are currently out of stock
- Crispy Bacon & Apple contains bacon. Pumpkin & Apple contains no meat of any kind, which makes it the one to take if you avoid pork
- Fruitables label these for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. They are a treat, not a meal, and are not balanced to feed on their own
- Keep treats to about a tenth of what your pet eats in a day, and take that tenth off the dinner rather than adding it on top
- Introduce any new treat gradually. A sudden change, or too many at once, upsets a stomach more often than the treat itself does
- Reseal the pack and keep it somewhere cool and dry. Treats left open in UAE humidity go soft and stale quickly
- Make sure fresh water is available at all times
- Fruitables' own promise line on every pack is free of wheat, corn, soy and artificial flavours or colours
- Hard baked biscuits are not for a puppy with loose teeth, a senior with dental disease, or a dog recovering from dental work
