Description
JBL LED Solar Y-Cable Switch for Aquarium Lights is a splitter cable with a switch for the JBL LED Solar range of aquarium luminaires.
Key Features
- Two luminaires from one supply: Splits a single LED Solar power connection into two, so a pair of lights runs from one driver and one socket instead of two, and both come on together.
- An aquarium light fitting, not a solar product: LED Solar is simply the name JBL give their aquarium luminaire range. These are mains powered lights for an indoor tank, and this is an indoor accessory for them.
- Switch on the cable: The cable carries its own switch, which saves reaching behind the cabinet to the driver every time the lights go on or off.
- JBL's own connector: LED Solar luminaires use JBL's plug rather than a standard barrel connector, so a generic splitter from an electronics shop will not fit.
Wiring It Safely Near Water
- Run the cable so that water cannot track along it into a socket. Leave a loop that hangs below the socket, and keep every plug and connector above the water line and outside the cabinet's wet area.
- Switch off at the wall before you connect or disconnect anything. Water and a live connector are the one combination to take seriously around a tank.
- Check the load before you split the supply. Running two luminaires doubles the demand on the driver, and a driver sized for one light will run hot and fail. Add up the wattage of both luminaires and compare it with the rating printed on your transformer.
- Keep the driver and all joints dry, ventilated and off the cabinet floor where spills collect.
- Do not use a cable with a damaged sheath, a cracked plug or bent pins.
Good To Know
- The LED Solar range has run through several generations with different connectors and drivers. Send us your luminaire model and the rating on your transformer and we will confirm this cable suits it before you order.
- Label the switch once it is fitted. A switch in a cabinet that nobody can identify tends to get left alone, and lights then run on the wrong schedule.
- Indoor aquarium use only. It is not weatherproof and is not for pond or garden lighting.
