Description

JBL ClearMec Plus Pad for CPe1500 is a drop-in filter pad for the JBL CristalProfi e1500, holding JBL's mix of clay balls and resin that binds nitrite, nitrate and phosphate. It arrives as a complete set: take the plastic bag off, put it in the empty filter basket and close the filter.

Key Features

  • Made for the JBL CristalProfi e1500: sized to the basket, so there is nothing to cut, weigh or pack.
  • Binds nitrite, nitrate and phosphate: the nutrients that drive algae and the nitrogen that water changes otherwise have to remove.
  • Clay balls and resin together: JBL's mix, with a foam edge that slows the water down so it has time to react.
  • Slow flow through the foam edge: contact time is what makes a chemical medium work. Water that races past does nothing.
  • One empty basket is all it needs: the complete set goes in as a unit.
  • Test, do not guess: a reading before and after a media change is the only way to know whether it did what you hoped.

Fitting And Replacing It

  • Take the plastic bag off before it goes in. It is packaging, not part of the pad.
  • Put it in an empty basket rather than on top of other media, so the flow goes through it.
  • Keep the coarse mechanical stages ahead of it in the flow.
  • Replace it on a schedule. Once the resin is full it stops working without looking any different.
  • Change it at a different service from the biological media.

Good To Know

  • Resin media do not last indefinitely. They fill up with what they have bound and then simply stop working, with no outward sign, so replace them on a schedule rather than when something goes wrong.
  • In a planted tank, do not strip nitrate and phosphate to nothing. Plants need both, and a tank with neither tends to hand the advantage to algae anyway.
  • Test the water before and after you change the media. It is the only way to know whether a change did what you hoped.
  • Chemical media is not a substitute for water changes, sensible stocking or lighter feeding. It buys you headroom, not a different tank.
  • Rinse media in tank water, never under the tap. Chlorine kills the bacteria living on it, and those bacteria are most of what a mature filter is worth.
