Description

JBL CristalProfi e1500/e1900 Pump Head Gasket is the rubber seal between the pump head and the canister on JBL CristalProfi e1500 and e1900 external filters.

Key Features

  • The one part that makes the filter watertight: An external canister is sealed by this single ring. Once it hardens, flattens or splits, the filter weeps down the inside of the cabinet, loses its prime and starts drawing air through the pump.
  • Genuine JBL service part: JBL list it for the e1500 and e1900 filters, first and second generation, which is what their part name e15/1900/1,2 refers to.
  • Replace it rather than reseat it: A gasket that has taken a set will not seal again however hard the clips are closed. Clamping harder on a tired seal distorts the housing instead.
  • Worth keeping on the shelf: A filter out of action is a tank losing its biological filtration, and this is an inexpensive part to have ready before it fails.

Fitting It

  • Unplug the filter and close the taps on the hose block before you open anything.
  • Lift the old ring out and clean the channel it sits in. A strand of filter wool or a grain of gravel trapped under the seal is the most common reason a filter still leaks after a service.
  • Seat the new ring evenly in its groove without stretching it. A smear of silicone grease helps it bed in, but petroleum jelly swells rubber, so do not use it.
  • Close the clips evenly, a little at a time on alternate sides, rather than forcing one down fully first.
  • Refill, run it, and lay a dry tissue along the seam. Watch it for ten minutes before you close the cabinet.

Good To Know

  • Check your filter's model and generation before ordering. The e402, e702 and e902 take a different seal, and so do the older CristalProfi models.
  • Replace the seal every second or third full strip down, or as soon as it looks shiny, flattened on one side or cracked.
  • Never clean the seal or its channel with detergent or solvent. Warm water and a cloth only.
  • Store a spare flat and out of sunlight. Rubber perishes in heat and UV.
