The Groom Professional Klip Well Blade Wash is the proper clean rather than the quick one -- you dip the running blade into it and it flushes out the packed hair and grease that an aerosol only loosens.

How To Use It

• Pour a shallow amount into a flat dish or dipping jar.
• With the clipper running, dip only the blade teeth in -- never the clipper body, and never deep enough to reach the hinge or the motor.
• Run it for a few seconds, lift out, and let the excess run off.
• Dry the blade, then oil it before it goes back into use or into storage. Blade wash takes the oil off along with the dirt, so re-oiling is not optional.

Clean Blade, Cool Blade

Most of the heat in a clipper blade is friction, and most of that friction is hair and grease packed into the teeth. A blade that is getting hot faster than it used to is usually telling you it needs cleaning rather than replacing. Blades hot enough to burn skin are a real risk on thin-skinned areas -- the belly, groin, armpits and tail.

Who Makes It

Groom Professional launched in 2009 on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland and is sold through the grooming trade supplier Christies Direct. The range was built for working salons rather than for the bathroom cupboard, which is why so much of it comes as a concentrate and in four-litre sizes. Groom Professional say the products are manufactured in the UK.

• Always re-oil after washing. A clean, dry blade runs hotter than a dirty one.
• Flammable solvent. Keep it away from heat and flame, use it somewhere ventilated, and keep it off your skin and the animal's.
• Keep it out of the eyes and mouth. Rinse with clean water if any gets in.
• Keep it out of reach of children and store it somewhere cool and dry.
