What A Gravity Dispenser Is Good For

• Water. This is the real use - a large reservoir means the bowl is never empty, which matters a great deal in this climate
• A long day out, or the gap between you leaving and someone else arriving
• Dry food for a dog that paces itself. It is not portion control, and that is the important caveat

Where It Is The Wrong Tool

• Any animal that will eat until the food runs out. A gravity feeder is free-feeding by design, and free-feeding is how most overweight pets got there
• Cats on a weight plan, diabetic animals, and anything on measured portions - weigh the food instead
• Multi-pet households where one animal guards the feeder
• Wet food of any kind. Dry only

Looking After It

• Empty, wash and dry the reservoir weekly if it holds water. Biofilm builds inside a reservoir faster than in an open bowl because nothing disturbs it
• Do not just top it up for weeks on end. Standing water in heat is exactly where bacteria thrive
• If it holds food, let it run almost empty before refilling so old kibble does not sit at the bottom going stale
• Keep it out of direct sun. Warm water is less appealing and goes off faster

• Georplast s.r.l. is an Italian manufacturer founded in 1970, based at Mezzago just outside Milan
• They injection-mould their own plastic rather than buying it in, and the whole pet range is made in Italy
• Design is done with an Italian studio, which is why the trays and carriers look less utilitarian than most of the category

Good To Know

• Not a substitute for checking on your pet. A dispenser covers a day, not a weekend
• Watch how much your pet is actually drinking. A dispenser makes it harder to notice a cat drinking far more than usual, which is often the first sign of kidney disease or diabetes
• Plastic wears out. Once a tray or bowl is visibly scratched, those scratches hold bacteria and odour that washing will not shift - replace it rather than scrubbing harder
