Description

NexGard Combo Spot-On for Cats - Small - 0.8 to 2.4 kg is a monthly spot-on treatment for cats that covers fleas, ticks, mites and worms in one application, in the 0.3 ml applicator for cats of 0.8 to 2.4 kg.

Key Features

  • Buy it by your cat's weight: This is the 0.3 ml applicator, for cats of 0.8 to 2.4 kg. The whole tube is one dose, so weigh your cat rather than estimating.
  • One tube instead of three treatments: NexGard state that it treats and controls fleas, ticks, mange and ear mites, roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm and lungworm, and prevents heartworm. That replaces a separate wormer and a separate flea treatment, which matters a lot with a cat that objects to being medicated.
  • Monthly, not quarterly: This is a monthly product. If you have been used to a treatment that lasts a season, reset your expectations and your calendar, because stretching the interval leaves a gap.
  • Goes on the skin, not down the throat: A spot-on at the base of the skull is often the only realistic option with a cat that will not take a tablet. Part the fur and put it on skin, where the cat cannot reach to groom it off.

Getting The Size Right

  • Weigh your cat rather than estimating. The two applicator sizes cover 0.8 to 2.4 kg and 2.5 to 7.5 kg, and the whole tube is one dose.
  • For a cat over 7.5 kg the brand's own guidance is a combination of applicators. That is a dose decision, so have your vet set it rather than working it out yourself.
  • A growing kitten needs re-weighing monthly. It will outgrow the small applicator quickly, and an under-dosed cat is an unprotected cat.
  • Tell us your cat's weight and we will confirm which size you need before we send anything.

When And How To Apply It

  • One applicator a month, on the same date each month. Monthly is the dosing interval; do not stretch it because the cat still looks clear.
  • It goes on the skin at the base of the skull, where the cat cannot turn round and lick it off. Part the fur and empty the tube onto skin, not onto the top of the coat, or most of it will sit in the fur and do nothing.
  • Keep cats apart until it has dried, and do not stroke the spot. A cat that grooms it off another cat has both lost its dose and swallowed some.
  • Year-round in the UAE. There is no cold season here to interrupt fleas, and mosquitoes that carry heartworm are about for most of the year.
  • Indoor-only cats still need it. Fleas come in on your shoes and on the dog, and an indoor cat with fleas is a very common sight in a Dubai flat.

A Veterinary Medicine, Not A Supplement

  • This is a licensed veterinary medicine. Depending on where you are it may need a prescription or a vet's sign-off, and we will tell you what we need from you before we send it.
  • Tell your vet what else your pet is taking, including anything you bought over the counter. Interactions are their job to rule out, not yours.
  • If your pet is pregnant, nursing, very young, very old or being treated for anything else, that is a conversation with a vet before you buy rather than after the first dose.
  • Keep a note of the batch number and the date you gave each dose. If you ever need to report a reaction, that is the first thing you will be asked.

Safety

  • For cats only. Do not use it on a dog, and do not use a dog product on your cat.
  • Wash your hands after applying it, and keep children away from the cat and from the treated spot until it is dry.
  • Watch your cat after a first dose. Drooling, hiding, twitching or a cat that has gone quiet and still means ring the vet.
  • Store it out of reach, keep it in its own packaging, and do not decant it.

Good To Know

  • The 0.3 ml applicator is for cats of 0.8 to 2.4 kg. For a cat over 7.5 kg the brand advise a combination of applicators, which is a dose your vet should set.
  • NexGard give a minimum of 8 weeks of age and 0.8 kg bodyweight. A kitten below that is too small for this product.
  • NexGard state that safety has been demonstrated in breeding, pregnant and lactating queens. Check with your vet anyway before treating one.
  • We do not list the active ingredients on this page. If your vet asked for a particular active, ask us and we will read them off the pack.
  • Cats only, and this is a spot-on rather than a chew. The NexGard Spectra chew is the dog product and the two are not interchangeable.
