Description

JBL CPe900 Impeller & Shaft is the impeller and shaft for the JBL CristalProfi e900 pump. The impeller and its shaft are the parts that actually spin, and a filter that has gone quiet on flow or noisy in the cabinet is usually telling you one of them is worn.

Key Features

  • Impeller and shaft: the two spinning parts in an external filter pump.
  • For the JBL CristalProfi e900: match the model number on your filter before ordering.
  • Fixes a rattle or weak flow: the usual symptoms of a worn impeller, and the usual reason people replace a whole filter unnecessarily.
  • Check the bearing too: JBL also sells a kit that includes the bearing. If the bearing in your pump is worn, a new impeller alone will not fix it for long.
  • Lifts out with the filter head: no special tools to get at it.
  • Cheaper than a filter: the body, baskets and media all outlast the pump parts.

Fitting It

  • Switch the filter off at the mains and isolate the hoses before you open anything, with a bucket and towel underneath.
  • Lift the pump head off and note how the old parts sit before you take them out. The shaft and bearings only go back one way.
  • Clean the impeller chamber while it is open. Grit and limescale in the chamber are what wear the next impeller out.
  • Seat the new impeller without forcing it, refit the head and check the seal before you switch on.
  • Prime the filter and listen. A rattle means something is not seated.

Good To Know

  • A noisy or weak external filter is usually the impeller, the shaft or the bearings rather than the pump. They are the only moving parts in it.
  • Replacing the impeller, shaft and bearings together gives the best result. A new impeller running on a worn bearing wears out quickly.
  • This kit is the impeller and shaft. Check the pack for whether a bearing is included, and look at the bearing in your pump while the filter is open.
  • Never run an external filter dry, even briefly. That is what kills impellers.
  • Check the model number on your filter against this part before ordering. JBL has made several generations of the CristalProfi e and the pump parts are not interchangeable between them.
  • Keep the old parts if they still turn. A spare impeller in the cupboard is worth having the day a filter starts rattling.
