IMAC Easy Cat Hooded Cat Litter Box Anthracite - 50x40x40cm is the anthracite version of IMAC's covered cat tray, with a dark base and a lighter lid. The hood releases on side clips, a clear flap swings in the front, an activated carbon filter sits in the lid and a carry handle folds up out of the top. It measures 50 x 40 x 40cm and includes a scoop that stows in a slot on the body.

Living With A Hooded Box

• A hood holds the smell in for you, which also means it concentrates for the cat. Scoop it out daily or the enclosure works against you.
• Not every cat will use a covered tray. If yours hovers at the entrance or starts going elsewhere, take the hood off and run it as an open tray before assuming the litter is at fault.
• If your cat will not push through the flap, the door can come out and the box still works. That is worth doing from the start for a kitten or an older cat with stiff joints.
• Replace the carbon filter when it stops making a difference. A clogged filter is one of the usual reasons a hooded box starts to smell.

• The usual guidance is one tray per cat plus one spare, placed apart from each other and away from food and water bowls.
• Litter is heavy. Check the 50cm footprint against the spot you have in mind before ordering, particularly in a bathroom or a utility cupboard.
• Wash it with hot water and a mild detergent. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners, which smell like urine to a cat and can put it off the tray altogether.
• Replace the tray once the plastic is badly scratched. Scratches hold smell no matter how well you wash them.
• The lid and base separate completely, so the whole box fits in a bath or a large sink when it needs more than a wipe down.
