Not Permanent Housing

A box this size cannot hold a proper temperature gradient or take a UVB lamp, so it is a short-stay container rather than a home. Its real uses are carrying an animal to the vet, quarantining a new arrival, keeping feeder insects, raising hatchlings for their first weeks, and holding a reptile safely for an hour while you clean its terrarium. Anything longer than that needs a full enclosure.

Good To Know

• Check the lid clicks fully shut every time. Snakes and geckos are persistent about corners and gaps, and a small animal loose in a house is usually lost.
• A plastic box in a car heats up very fast in this climate. Never leave one in a parked car, keep it out of direct sun, and move an animal in the cool part of the day.
• Line it with kitchen paper for transport and quarantine. It is easy to change, and it shows you clearly what has been passed -- which is most of the point of a quarantine period.
• Keep feeder insect boxes separate from the ones you use for animals, and wash them between uses.
