Description
The Hagen Breeding Box in small is a clear plastic container with a vented lid and a large access door -- the size for a hatchling, a gecko on a trip to the vet, or a batch of feeder insects.

Not Permanent Housing
A box this size cannot hold a proper temperature gradient or take a UVB lamp, so it is a short-stay container rather than a home. Its real uses are carrying an animal to the vet, quarantining a new arrival, keeping feeder insects, raising hatchlings for their first weeks, and holding a reptile safely for an hour while you clean its terrarium. Anything longer than that needs a full enclosure.
Who Makes It
Exo Terra is the reptile and amphibian brand of Rolf C. Hagen, the Montreal company founded in 1955. Its range runs from glass terrariums and UVB lighting to substrates, hides and the plastic boxes keepers use for transport and quarantine.
Good To Know
- Check the lid clicks fully shut every time. Snakes and geckos are persistent about corners and gaps, and a small animal loose in a house is usually lost.
- Small animals overheat fastest. Never leave the box in a parked car or in direct sun, even briefly.
- Kitchen paper is the right lining for transport and quarantine -- cheap to change and it shows you what has been passed.
- A hatchling in a box this size still needs a warm end and a cool end if it is in there for more than an hour or two.
