The Fluval Ribbed Hosing for 104, 204, 105, 205 & 06/07 Series is genuine Fluval ribbed hosing for the smaller canister filters, ribbed so it resists kinking where it has to bend behind a cabinet.

Key Features

• Ribbed construction, which is the point — a kinked hose starves the filter and a plain smooth hose kinks easily
• Fits the Fluval 104 and 204 and their successors in the same body size
• Cut to length on installation, so the run can be kept as short as possible
• Hose perishes, stiffens and clouds over the years. Replacing it is cheap and restores flow

Fitting It

• Unplug anything electrical before putting your hands in the tank
• Disconnect the hoses and take the unit to a sink rather than working over the tank
• Check the old part against the new one before fitting. If they differ, stop and check the model number
• A smear of silicone lubricant on an O-ring before reassembly makes the next service much easier and helps the seal sit properly
• Prime the filter and watch the first few minutes of running for leaks before you walk away

• Keep the runs short and straight. Every metre and every bend costs flow
• Check the diameter against your filter before ordering. Fluval uses different hose sizes across the range
• Old hose goes hard and stops sealing on the connectors, which is a slow leak waiting to happen
• A genuine Fluval spare part. Check the model number against your unit before ordering — Fluval part numbers look alike and do not cross over between series
• Fluval sells these individually so a filter can be repaired rather than replaced, which is usually the cheaper and greener option
• Keeping a spare impeller and O-ring in the cupboard saves a tank when something fails on a weekend
