Description

The Fauna Lorenz Cat Play Tower is a low, wide play tower topped with a deep woven sisal basket bed — a rattan-look finish that sits better in a living room than most cat furniture does.

Key Features

  • 45 x 45 cm footprint and only 76 cm tall, which makes it one of the steadier and less visually intrusive trees in the range
  • A deep round woven basket on top with a raised rim, and a second shallower woven bowl at the lower level
  • The woven parts are knitted sisal rather than rattan, so they take claws rather than splintering under them
  • A broad grey plush platform between the two levels, with two spiral springs and pom-pom toys
  • Posts are wrapped in hardwearing sisal rope — the surface a cat's claws are meant to strip on, instead of the arm of your sofa
  • Delivered flat-packed with fixings and instructions. Assembly is a screwdriver job, not a workshop one

Setting It Up

  • Put it where your cat already spends time — by a window, or next to whatever it has been scratching. A tree in the spare room gets ignored
  • Retighten the bolts after the first fortnight and every few months after that. Almost every wobbly cat tree is a loose bolt rather than a design fault
  • Low height and a wide base make this a sensible first tree for a kitten, or for an older cat that has stopped jumping

Good To Know

  • Scratching is how a cat sheds the worn outer sheath of its claws and leaves its scent. It is not a habit you can train out, so the only real question is what it scratches
  • A new tree often gets ignored for the first week. A pinch of catnip rubbed into the posts, or a familiar blanket on the top perch, usually settles it
  • Woven sisal takes claws well but frays visibly over time. That is the material doing its job, not a defect
  • Check the dangling toys regularly and cut them off if the cord frays. A cat that swallows a length of string needs surgery, not a wait-and-see
  • Vacuum the plush with an upholstery head and spot-clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak it — the boards underneath are chipboard and swell once wet
