Before You Order

• Measure your ceiling height first. This fits rooms between 240 cm and 260 cm only — a standard 3 m ceiling is too high for it
• It needs a solid, level floor and a firm ceiling surface. It is not suitable under a suspended or false ceiling, which will not take the upward pressure
• Tension fittings work by pressure, not by fixings, so nothing is drilled into the ceiling

Setting It Up

• Tighten the tension foot until the pole is genuinely firm, then test it with your own hand before letting a cat on it
• Re-check the tension every few weeks. Floors and fittings settle, and a tension pole that has loosened is the one real hazard with this design
• Put it where your cat already spends time — by a window, or next to whatever it has been scratching. A tree in the spare room gets ignored

Good To Know

• Scratching is how a cat sheds the worn outer sheath of its claws and leaves its scent. It is not a habit you can train out, so the only real question is what it scratches
• The steps are small and the climb is a long one. This suits an agile adult cat rather than a kitten, a heavy cat or an older one
• Put something soft at the base. Cats do misjudge the descent from a tower this tall
• A new tree often gets ignored for the first week. A pinch of catnip rubbed into the posts, or a familiar blanket on the top perch, usually settles it
• Vacuum the plush with an upholstery head and spot-clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak it — the boards underneath are chipboard and swell once wet
