Inaba

Inaba is a Japanese food company that began as a tuna business in 1805 and has made cat food since 1958. It is best known for Churu, the lickable tube treat you hand-feed or squeeze over a meal, and the range we carry is built around it.

What We Stock

• Churu Pops, four 15g tubes to a 60g pack, in tuna or tuna with chicken. These are a moist, chewy treat set in a jelly rather than a smooth purée.
• Churu for Kitten, four 14g tubes to a 56g pack, in chicken or tuna, made for kittens under one year old.
• Churu Bisque, three 40g pouches, in tuna or tuna with salmon. Thicker and creamier than the tubes, and easier to pour over a meal.

Choosing From This Range

• For hand-feeding and training, pick a tube. A cat has to stay in one place to lick it, which makes it useful for nail trims, carrier practice or a nervous cat that needs to get used to you.
• For a meal topper, pick the Bisque. A 40g pouch is nearly three times a tube and pours straight over food.
• For a kitten under one, use the kitten tubes. They are the same idea in a portion that fits a small daily calorie allowance.
• The Churu for Kitten and Churu Bisque packs are both marked no carrageenan. The Churu Pops recipe uses it to set the jelly.

Good To Know

• Every product here is a treat rather than a meal. Inaba labels them a complement to a complete food, so they go on top of the daily ration, not instead of part of it.
• Keep treats to roughly a tenth of what your cat eats in a day and take the difference off the main meal.
• These are high-moisture treats, which helps a cat on a dry diet, but they do not replace a water bowl.
• Serve a tube or pouch when it is opened and refrigerate anything left for the same day. There are no preservatives holding them together.
