Clear Choice

Clear Choice is Pestell's silica crystal cat litter. The whole range is one product in four pack sizes: a non-clumping crystal litter whose granules are full of micro-pores that absorb moisture and trap odour-causing particles on contact.

What Makes It Different

• Indicator Crystals - blue marker granules mixed through the litter that fade as they take up moisture. When they have all gone pale, the trayful is spent. No guesswork.
• Low-track - granule shape designed to stay in the tray rather than travel through the house on paws.
• Non-clumping - you scoop solids daily and the liquid is absorbed into the crystals. Stir the tray through each day so it does not saturate in one spot.

Choosing a Size

Pestell rates each pack per cat: 1.8 kg for one month, 3.6 kg for two months, 5.4 kg for three months and 13.6 kg for eight months. Two cats roughly halve those figures. The 5.4 kg comes in a resealable bucket with a handle rather than a bag.

Good To Know

• Because it does not clump, you cannot see how much your cat is urinating. With clumping litter, a change in clump size or number is often the first sign of diabetes or kidney disease - worth bearing in mind for an older cat.
• Crystals feel different underfoot. Change over gradually, half old and half new for a week, and be prepared for a cat that simply does not like the texture.
• Never flush silica litter. It does not break down and will block a drain.
• Keep packs sealed and dry - crystals take up moisture from the air.
• One litter tray per cat plus one spare, in separate places.
• If you are pregnant, ask someone else to change the tray, or wear gloves and wash your hands - the standard toxoplasmosis precaution for any cat litter.
• Straining in the tray, crying, or passing little or no urine is an emergency in cats, especially males. See a vet straight away.
