Chris Christensen is an American professional grooming brand - the shampoos, conditioners and finishing sprays used in show rings and grooming salons. Most of the range is sold in a 473 ml or 354 ml bottle for home use and a 3.8 litre bottle for salons.
The Ranges
- SmartWash50 - ultra-concentrated shampoos that dilute up to 50:1. The everyday workhorse, in fragranced, whitening, de-shed and fragrance-free hypoallergenic versions.
- Smart Rinse - the matching conditioners, at a lighter 8:1 dilution. All Coat is the plain one; De-Shed is for heavy shedders.
- Top Cat - the cat range. Reduced fragrance, no added dyes, and formulated for cats specifically: clarifying, volume, shine, body boost, three colour shampoos, a finishing rinse and an anti-static spray.
- Ice on Ice - argan oil detangling, for dry coats that tangle and frizz.
- Thick n Thicker - silicone-free volumising, for thin or limp coats.
- Diamond Series - repair shampoo for damaged, brittle coats.
- Happy Eyes - tearless, sulphate-free two-in-one, for faces and puppies.
- Smart Scents - finishing cologne in four fragrances.
Good To Know
- The SmartWash50 shampoos are concentrates and must never be used neat. Chris Christensen's instruction is to dilute at least 25:1 and up to 50:1 - roughly 20 ml of shampoo into a litre of warm water. The Smart Rinse conditioners are a lighter 8:1.
- Top Cat is for cats, and the rest of the range is mostly for dogs. Never use a dog product on a cat - cats groom everything off their coat and swallow it, and their liver handles some ingredients very differently.
- Rinse until the water runs completely clear. Product left in the coat is one of the most common causes of itching after a bath.
- Dry thoroughly, especially skin folds, ears and between the toes. A coat left damp in UAE humidity is how hot spots and yeast get started.
- Most dogs need bathing every four to eight weeks. Most cats never need bathing at all.
- The colour shampoos - Wonderful White, Radiant Red, Gorgeous Gold - are optic brighteners, not dyes. They intensify tone that is already in the coat. Radiant Red should not be used on a coat paler than the shampoo.
- The 3.8 litre bottles weigh around 4 kg. The Chris Christensen gallon pump fits them.
- These are grooming products, not treatments. Persistent itching, hair loss, scabs, a smell or a rash point to a skin problem that needs a vet.
