What Actually Changes In A Cat Of Eleven

• Smell goes first, and a cat eats with its nose. A warmer, stronger-smelling wet food gets eaten when the same food cold does not.
• Teeth go next. A soft mousse is swallowed by a cat that has stopped chewing, which is the real argument for this texture over chunks.
• Water matters more with age, and an older cat is no better at drinking than a young one. A wet meal is the easiest way to get it in.
• None of that is a substitute for a check-up. An older cat that is losing weight, drinking more or eating less is telling you something a change of food will not fix. See your vet first, then pick the food.

Three Textures In The Silver Line

• Mousse is smooth all through, for a cat that has given up chewing.
• Mousse and Fillets puts both in the same tin, so there is something to chew for a cat that still wants to and something soft underneath if it does not.

Wet Food And Water, Which Matters More Here

• A wet food is roughly three-quarters water. In this climate that is water going into the cat without it having to choose to drink, and cats are famously bad at choosing to drink.
• It also means you are buying water by weight. That is the honest reason a tin looks dear per kilogram next to a bag of kibble.

Opened Tins, In This Heat

• Cover an opened tin, refrigerate it, and use it within a day or two.
• Let it come back to room temperature first. Cats refuse cold food, and an older cat with a poor sense of smell refuses it faster, because cold food gives off almost nothing to smell.
• Do not leave wet food down for hours in a warm room. This matters a great deal more here than it does in Italy, where it was formulated.

Good To Know

• Grain-free. Schesir does not state potato-free on these, so if you are specifically avoiding potato starch, ask us and we will read the pack for you.
• Cats are far more stubborn about new food than dogs. Put the new tin beside the old one rather than swapping the bowl in one go, and do not take one refusal as the answer.
