Key Features

• Programmable rather than just timed: Set the number of feeds and the portion, so the tank gets small amounts often instead of one large drop. That suits fish far better.
• Small and often beats big and rare: Fish have no stomach to speak of. Two modest feeds do more good than one large one, and leave far less food rotting in the substrate.
• Dry food only: Flake, pellet and granule. Keep the hopper part full rather than brimming, because dry food cakes in humid air.
• The step up from a plain timer: If you have had a basic feeder jam or overfeed, this is the more controllable option. The AppControl version adds phone control.

How Much To Feed

• Less than you think. What the fish clear in two or three minutes, once or twice a day. Uneaten food rots, drives nitrate up and feeds algae.
• A feeder makes overfeeding easier, not harder. Set it low, watch for a few days, and only then adjust.
• Dry food absorbs moisture from aquarium air and cakes. Keep the hopper only as full as a week or two needs, and shake it when you top it up.

Leaving It Running While You Are Away

• Test it for a week while you are at home. Finding out it jammed is survivable on Tuesday and expensive while you are abroad.
• A week of slight underfeeding does healthy adult fish no harm at all. A hopper that dumps its contents in one go can kill a tank. Err low.
• Have somebody look in anyway. A feeder cannot notice a dead fish, a failed heater or a filter that has stopped.
