JUWEL Aqua Clean 2.0 Gravel and Sludge Cleaner is a gravel and sludge cleaner for lifting waste out of aquarium substrate during a water change.

Key Features

• Cleaning and water changing in one job: Waste collects in the top centimetre of gravel. Vacuuming it out as you take water off means one job instead of two.
• This is where nitrate comes from: Uneaten food and waste in the substrate is the main engine behind rising nitrate. Taking it out is more effective than any bottle.
• Do a section at a time: Work across a third of the floor at each change rather than the whole bed. Stirring up everything at once clouds the tank and disturbs the bacteria living in the substrate.
• Watch the plants: Push it into open gravel, not through a planted carpet. Rooted plants do not enjoy being hoovered.

Water Changes In Practice

• Twenty to thirty per cent a fortnight suits most tanks. Bigger and less often is harder on the fish than smaller and regular.
• Match the temperature of the replacement water and treat it for chlorine before it goes in. Dubai tap water is chlorinated, and chlorine kills the bacteria in your filter as well as irritating fish.
• Dubai tap water is largely desalinated, so it is soft and low in minerals. That suits plants and soft-water fish, and livebearers and African cichlids need remineralising. Ask us what to add.
