Description

The Greenfields Dog Shampoo and Conditioner does both jobs in one bottle, which halves the time a dog has to stand in the bath -- the part most dogs object to.

Key Features

  • Two in one: Shampoo and conditioner in a single step, so one wash and one rinse
  • Pro-vitamin B5: Greenfields include panthenol to help the coat hold condition
  • All breeds: A general formula rather than one aimed at a particular coat type
  • Volume and shine: Greenfields say it adds body and gloss and leaves the coat combable
  • Regular use: Suitable for routine washing rather than occasional use only
  • Two sizes: 250ml or 400ml

How To Bath A Dog

  • Brush the coat out before it gets wet. Water turns a loose tangle into a solid mat.
  • Wet the coat right through with lukewarm water -- not hot. A thick double coat takes longer to soak than it looks.
  • Work the shampoo in from the neck down, so suds run away from the face.
  • Rinse for longer than you think you need to. Shampoo left in the coat is the usual cause of itching after a bath.
  • Towel off, then comb the coat while it is still damp and brush again once it is dry.

How Often To Wash

Most dogs do not need a bath more than once every four to six weeks, and many need less. Washing too often strips the oils that keep a coat waterproof and the skin comfortable, which can leave a dog itchier than it started. Brushing between baths does more for a coat than shampoo does.

Which Size

The 250ml is sensible for a small or medium dog washed every few weeks. The 400ml works out better per wash if you have a big dog, a thick coat, or more than one dog in the house.

Who Makes It

Greenfields is part of Orange Pet Brands, based in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. They say they have more than twenty years in pet care and that their shampoos are produced in the Netherlands, paraben-free, biodegradable and pH balanced.

Good To Know

  • This one is out of stock at the moment, so the page is here for reference while we wait on the next delivery.
  • This is a dog product. Do not use it on a cat -- it contains essential oils and fragrance, and several oils that are harmless to dogs are not safe for cats.
  • Keep it out of the eyes and ears. Rinse with clean water if any gets in.
  • Greenfields describe the perfume as free from allergens. That refers to the declarable fragrance allergens, not a guarantee that no animal will ever react -- stop using it if the skin goes red or itchy.
  • A shampoo cleans; it does not treat disease. Broken, scabby or weeping skin, a smell that comes back within days of a bath, bald patches or scratching to the point of bleeding all need a vet rather than a different bottle.
  • Not a flea, tick or mange treatment. Those need a product prescribed for the job.
  • Read the label before use and keep it out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dark place.
