Description
The Four Paws Magic Coat Slicker Brush is the standard slicker: a flat pad of fine angled pins that lifts dead hair out of an undercoat and opens tangles before they become mats.
Key Features
- Fine angled pins across a flat pad
- Choose small for cats, toy breeds and faces, or medium for most dogs
- Works on tangles as well as loose hair
- Part of the Four Paws Magic Coat grooming range
Using A Slicker Without Scratching
- Keep the strokes light and let the tips do the work. Pressing a slicker into the skin causes the red graze groomers call slicker burn
- Hold the brush loosely and flick at the end of each stroke rather than dragging through
- Short-coated dogs rarely need a slicker at all. They are for coats with an undercoat or a woolly texture
Working On Mats And Tangles
- Hold the fur between the mat and the skin with your free hand so the pull goes into your fingers rather than the skin
- Work from the outside edge of the mat inwards in small passes. Attacking the middle of a mat just tightens it
- A mat that is tight against the skin should be clipped out by a groomer or a vet, not cut. The skin lifts into the mat and is very easy to cut through
Making Grooming Easy
- Short, frequent sessions beat long ones. A minute a day with treats builds a pet that tolerates grooming for life
- Work in the direction the coat grows and stop before your pet has had enough
- Clear the hair out of the pins between passes or the brush stops reaching the coat
