The FARMA Racing Special Pigeon Food is FARMA's racing ration — a twenty-four variety grain mix built for the energy demand of training and race days, in a 20 kg sack.

• Twenty-four seed varieties, which FARMA formulates as complete nutrition for birds in training and racing
• Declared at 16.1% crude protein, 6.7% crude fat and 5.1% crude fibre
• Main ingredients include corn and red corn, white and red sorghum, green, yellow and maple peas, wheat, safflower, vetches, barley, soya, mung beans, hempseed, millets, striped and black sunflower, paddy rice, rice and rapeseed
• Legume-rich — peas, vetches, mung beans and soya carry the protein that muscle repair after a race depends on
• FARMA's feeding rate is 50–60 g per bird per day

Feeding

• Feed measured portions twice a day rather than leaving grain down; pigeons eat past what they need and a fat bird is a slow bird
• Raise the ration in the run-up to a race and ease it back through the quiet weeks
• Offer grit and a mineral or calcium source separately; no seed mix supplies enough calcium on its own
• Clean, fresh water at all times, changed at least daily in hot weather

Good To Know

• Racing food is a working bird's diet. Fed to loft birds that are not flying, it simply puts weight on
• Store the sack sealed, cool and off a concrete floor. Grain that takes up damp grows mould, and mouldy grain makes birds ill
• Check the sack for weevils and pantry moth in warm weather, and use it within a couple of months
• Racing and loft keeping are regulated in some places. Make sure your birds and your loft comply with local rules
