FARMA Parrot Special Mix - 800g

The FARMA Parrot Special Mix is the 800 g retail bag of FARMA's parrot staple — the same style of seed, nut and dried-fruit mix as the sack, in a size that suits one or two birds.

Feeding

• 100–150 g per bird per day, measured. A parrot left with a full bowl eats sunflower and leaves the rest
• Fresh vegetables daily alongside, plus a cuttlebone or mineral block
• Wash the bowl daily. Fruit pieces and damp seed spoil quickly in heat

Good To Know

• At 20% fat this is a rich mix. Seed-and-nut diets are the main cause of obesity, fatty liver disease and vitamin A deficiency in pet parrots — many avian vets recommend a formulated pellet as the base, with seed as part of the diet rather than all of it
• Avocado, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol and onion are toxic to parrots
• Keep the bag sealed once opened. Nuts and sunflower go rancid and dried fruit attracts moth
• A large parrot gets through 800 g in about a week, so this is the size for trying the mix rather than for stocking up
• Birds hide illness until very late. One sitting fluffed up on the floor of the cage is an emergency, not an off day
