The FARMA Hamster Food is a nineteen-ingredient seed and cereal mix for hamsters and other small rodents, enriched with nuts, dried fruit and vegetable croquettes.

Feeding

• 20–40 g is roughly one to two tablespoons. Hamsters hoard, so an empty bowl does not mean the food has been eaten — check the nest before refilling
• Scatter part of the ration rather than bowl-feeding all of it. Foraging is most of what a hamster does with its day
• Fresh water from a bottle at all times

Good To Know

• At 11% fat this is a rich mix, and the sunflower and peanuts are what hamsters go for first. Measure portions — obesity and diabetes are common in pet hamsters, particularly the dwarf species
• The raisins, figs and banana chips are sugar. For dwarf hamsters, which are prone to diabetes, they are worth picking out
• Whole peanuts and the largest sunflower seeds can be awkward for the smallest dwarf species
• A 20 kg sack will outlast a hamster several times over. Unless you keep a lot of rodents, buy a smaller pack — seed goes stale and fatty seed goes rancid
• A hamster that is wet around the tail, listless or has stopped hoarding needs a vet quickly. Wet tail kills fast
